My favorite holiday food has got to be the spiced pecans I make because they have all the flavors of the holidays that I love – cloves, cinnamon, allspice, and of course sugar! all covering an oh-so-yummy pecan half. Can’t get enough of ‘em.

My other favorite holiday recipe is our own bastardized Hoppin John; with half the family form the South you know we have to eat black-eye peas on New Years Day. Ours has spinach, kale or collards (greens, for more folding-money luck in the new year), and is smoky with chipotle, onion and garlic fine minced and sauteed before, a bit of celery salt, some mushroom stock and a few other random “secrets” (read: can’t always remember) – sounds weird but works for those who don’t/can’t eat piggies. We also add chicken-spinach sausage slices, and if someone craves the pig we give ‘em bacon to crumble on top.
